Thank you

Thank you, everyone, for your well wishes and support.  Your kind comments make this time a bit more bearable.

Quick Spencer Update:  He's been home for a few days.  I carry him from room to room and try to get him to eat a little food morning and night. He wants to be near us.  If I leave him in another part of the house, he will sometimes hobble to find us.  Then he lays down and sleeps for hours.  We went to our regular vet yesterday.  She is sending us to a neurologist because she does not want to do anything "drastic" (her word, not mine) without a second opinion.  Many people think I'm crazy for spending all this money on an 11 year old dog.  But I feel that his faithfulness and love for over a decade cannot be discounted or discarded.  If he still wants to be with us and I can make him comfortable, I am going to continue caring for him.

Thank you again for your kind words--I will carry them with me on this journey.

  1. Good to hear Spencer is doing alright. It's good your vet is sending him to a specialist...you'll know he's getting the best possible care.

I don't think you're crazy at all. Spencer is a part of your family & you'll do what's right for him & you.

  2. Lara, some people don't understand the connection some of us have with our pets. I would certainly do what you are doing, even if I had to borrow the money to pay the bills. If it turns out you have to go down another route (impossible to think about I know), you will at least know you've done everything you can.

Like you said, he's comforted just knowing you are there and doing everything you can do. A big hug to you all xo

  3. Pets are family members, plain and simple. He loves and adores all of you, as you do him. Please let us know if there's anything we can do to help out.

  4. I don't think it is crazy to care for a pet. If a pet can be treated and have even a few more pleasant years, then I think paying for a vet is worth it. You are smart enough to decide what is in the best interest of Spencer.

  5. Sorry I haven't been reading and commenting. I missed the move. I just caught up, and I'm so sorry to hear about Spencer. I completely understand all the time and money and energy you're putting in to him. I went through it myself and I'm sure there were people who thought I went overboard. But he's your dog and only you can know what feels right for you. I don't regret a single penny I spent on Sitka the last year he was alive. Hang in there.

  6. I can't imagine. I would have to do all that I could to help him if I were in your shoes. :( Hope he's getting better, your vet seems to be trying to do what's right for Spencer. Hang in there!
