Trolley Travel

We recently visited the East Troy Electric Railroad.  It is a living museum--visitors ride the restored, interurban trains while learning about their history.

These trains were used by commuters on a daily basis during the early 1900's.  I enjoyed looking at the colorful ads near the ceiling of the cars, reproductions from the turn of the 20th century.   I like to imagine being an office girl or shop clerk on my way home from work looking up to see these cheerful posters with their catchy slogans.

This particular car was recently restored with $28,000 worth of new upholstery.  The seats were beautiful and more comfortable than anything in my home.  I was a bit nervous letting my boys ride in this car with their (always) sticky hands and play shoes.

I must admit to calling everything that rides on rails a train, when actually there are trams, trolleys, streetcars, cable cars and more.  In a year or two, even Liam will know the difference.  In the meantime I'll refer to this site to keep up with my boys' growing interest. The next stop for weekend fun? Christmas trains and The Polar Express are just around the corner...
