As a mom of a kindergartner and as a classroom teacher...

...there are no words to describe my horror at today's news.  Nothing feels right and nothing feels safe.  I keep thinking about the victims' and their families' last normal hours.  Last night everyone was glad the next day would be Friday.  Teachers were double checking their supplies and lesson plans.  Children were sneaking candy canes off their Christmas trees.

Four months into the school year, the daily routine is well-honed.  Teachers can focus on academics and holiday assemblies instead of classroom management and safety drills.  Parents can give their children a quick goodbye kiss, check to make sure they have their lunch and then go on with the workday knowing the kids are okay.

Except now I don't think I'll be able to do those things ever again.

  1. We live in a society where we can't send our children to school and know they are safe and secure. I, am devastated by this fact, and madder than hell that people think their right to have a gun is more important than my child's right to be safe. This is just so horrible.

  2. It's gut wrenching to think what those families have to face ahead of them. & the insecurity we're all left with

  3. Its so horrible. I didn't see much of the coverage yesterday but I heard it on the radio and I just cried. I can't imagine the horror of sending you child to school thinking they would be safe only to have them be killed.

  4. The American politicians need to spend less time focusing on the what constitutes a proper family (including gay marriage) and what's right/wrong in the eye of the church, and spend more time on keeping it's children safe.

I'm so sorry this has happened and can only cry when I watch the news. xo

    1. That is the damned truth. A big part of me doesn't even want to live in this country anymore. I'm just so disgusted.
