Christmas Catch-Up (and a short one at that)

This will be a brief post because I am so very far behind on everything.  I didn't want another evening to go by without updating my blog but there are 1,001 other things I need to be doing right now as well.  Why am I suddenly playing catch up?  The day after Christmas I came down with the flu.  The real, honest to goodness Influenza.  If you can think of the challenges surrounding solo parenting two young children, try imagining caring for them while having a high fever for three days.  After the worst of the symptoms subsided, I was left with absolutely no energy.  Walking across the kitchen to get a juice box for Liam seemed tantamount to climbing Mt. Everest.  (And thank goodness I had some emergency juice boxes because I never would have been able to coordinate opening a bottle and  pouring liquid into a cup, no matter how much I love that little boy.)

Now on Day Five* I have about 70% of my energy back--still not enough to keep up with housework and the boys much less enjoy our Winter Break.  But I am thankful we are still on Winter Break and that I didn't have to call in sick to work.  Everyone who knows me knows that I loathe taking days for myself.  I save all my paid time off for my children's illnesses or daycare interruptions.

So I will post a few photos and assure you that we did, indeed, have a good Christmas.  I owe many of you a reading of your latest posts and I promise I will get to them.  Hopefully, you'll understand if my comments on your holiday memories come in mid-January.

*I am told that my bout with the flu was shorter than most because I actually had the vaccine this year. Well, I don't want to imagine what I would have experienced if I didn't have the vaccine. This was pretty bad.

Liam, literally five minutes after getting out of bed.

2 days, 393 Lego pieces later:  a finished helicopter!

Want some cookies with those sprinkles?

So impressed with the helicopter! I"m not sure I'd be able to do that. LOL

  6. Ugh. So sorry you've been sick. I know how hard even half a day of being sick with small children can be, and I can't imagine how you managed day after day after day. I hope you're getting some help, so you can rest and give your body the care it needs. Great holiday pictures. I see your boys like sprinkles as much as my kids do. Hope you're feeling better in 2013. Happy New Year!
